NP04 and NP04 cryostats 12/06/16

Cold Membrane Vessel (LNG industry technology) SS 1.2 mm primary membrane in contact with the liquid (primary containment) secondary membrane : composite laminated material (secondary containment) Insulation : reinforced polyurethane foam (5-6 W/m2) 12/06/16

Warm vessels External : Steel structure Internal : 1cm thick Stainless Steel Modular structure Modules bolted together All structural analysis done and OK by HSE SS plates welded in between modules SS vessel must gas tight (10-16 mbar/sec) CERN contracts active 8x2 walls/roofs/floors 8x2x3 ~ 45 trucks First 2 trucks 16-17th Aug., second 2-3 trucks 5-6th Sep. Assembly at CERN done by a Collaboration team: 1 eng CERN + 1 tec CERN + 5 tec JINR + 1 welder JINR + EN/HE transport + EN/SU surveyors NP04 vessel must finish by mid November 2016. Project engineer. : D.Mladenov/EP/DI

First the floor ! second trucks already on the road !

First assemble the floor on concrete blocks !!

First prepare the floor NP04 (1/3) Week 33 : for details  https://edms.cern.ch/document/1712076 Unload the 2 trucks outside EHN1-NE Prepare the lab in pitB (cabinets, tools, shims, …) Bring the 13+13 concrete blocks in pitB + blocks positioning tool Position and survey the concrete blocks in position Pre-position the floor modules on the concrete blocks Fix the concrete floor non conformity (SMB) Prepare elastomers and G10 isolation sheets Prepare grounding safety line needed needed during assembly Prepare hydraulic to be used for bolting Prepare for vacuum test and dye penetrant test on SS Test all tools

First prepare the floor NP04 (2/3) Week 34 : for details  https://edms.cern.ch/document/1712076 Assemble and bolt the floor on the concrete blocks Prepare welding procedure Survey shape and dimensions Not done!!! If possible pre-position cryostat floor in its final location Weld in between modules the SS plates Dye penetrant tests and vacuum tests Glue G10 as isolator below the beams Pre-position elastomers and rubber

First prepare the floor NP04 (3/3) Week 35 : for details  https://edms.cern.ch/document/1712076 If not already done position the floor in its final position Connect safety ground Survey position If necessary correct position by shimming Receive next 3 trucks (29th) Start the same type of activities for the first wall as described for the floor week 33-34 Week 36-43 : Repeat the schedule of the floor for each wall and roof Weld SS vessel corners Where necessary machine SS plates holes and weld local flange (on the roof) Check overall gas tightness Make a laser scan of the inside to define the final geometry when assembly is finished

Membrane cryostats SS 1.2 mm primary membrane in contact with the liquid (primary containment) secondary membrane : composite laminated material (secondary containment) Insulation : reinforced polyurethane foam (5-6 W/m2) Full engineering study contracted to the firm GTT in Paris (CERN contract) All the material necessary contracted to Korean licensed firms (CERN contracts) Material will arrive in ~16 sea containers 40’ between the 15th October and 10th November Installation contracted to a GTT licensed firm (CERN contract) which will start beginning of November. Both vessels will be operated at the same time. 15 person will be on side 3 persons of GTT will overview and control the process, including the QA We will do the final He leak checks with the mass spectrometer We have to provide all transport and cranes operation and garbage disposal One CERN Neutrino person will be the link between CERN and the firm for all what has to do with CERN services, daily planning and safety

LAr pump and valves Special valves engineered with GTT and a specialized firm 2 valves contracted by CERN LAr pumps on FNAL responsibity, already ordered Installation of pumps and valves part of the contracts Scheduled for January-February 2017

Clean rooms

Clean rooms

NP04 clean room In the final design phase We have some preliminary offers These are class 100’000 grey rooms To be better defined are the rails and cranes inside for the detector QA and installation We should start a DO in September Installation in early 2017 NP02 room not yet designed

What is urgent from our side To get all yellow barriers in place To get a decent temporary light To have all building doors installed with the access system operational To have a decent WIFI coverage To define space in the hall where we can store for a few months (2-3) material To define parking space and access for workers to the building

A provocation!!! We need restrooms inside the hall No way in winter to have 30-40 people to go out to baracks in the fields The RP requirements should be put in discussion. If it is really true then all the beverage, coffee, water dispensers should go out too. I think there is room for a rational discussion!
