Parents in partnership = progress + positivity Why am I even here? Parents in partnership = progress + positivity

What’s the point? Overview of changes in maths curriculum What your child will be learning in class and how they will be learning Supporting your child at home

Changes in the Maths Curriculum When we were younger = practising methods But, methods without understanding = errors 5 years old and I already hate maths

Changes in the Maths Curriculum New curriculum = methods + understanding Methods (procedural fluency) Understanding (conceptual understanding) These must be taught: in parallel with manipulatives at the right stage If you have a tutor for your child, ensure they teach in this way. If they just learn quick methods, they will not develop their understanding.

Changes in the Maths Curriculum Child led learning - layers Hundreds tens and ones NOT hundreds tens and units! ‘Regrouping’ not ‘borrowing’ or ‘exchanging’ No vertical working Mathletics
