Lab Book Guidelines Interactive Science Notebook Guidelines Like researchers in the scientific world who need to maintain presentable notes for themselves and for others to study or follow, you will be keeping a science notebook. It needs to be neat and easy to follow. Your lab book becomes your resource and study guide for studying for quizzes, tests and your final exam. Your lab book will include warm-ups, written work, class notes, drawings, handouts and lab write-ups. It will be a record of your progress/grades in science. The following criteria are to be followed in keeping your lab book: It is recommended that you purchase one composition notebook with graph paper/college ruled paper. You can purchase this notebook at Staples, Office Max, Target and Walmart. Write your name, teacher’s name, and period # clearly on the front cover in magic marker. The first page is the title page. Write your name, Bogle Junior High School, school year, period number and Volume 1 in large letters in the middle of the title page. The back of this page is the color key. Count out five pages (10 front and back). These pages will be used for reference pages. Label these pages will be titled reference page. Count out three pages (6 front and back, letter A through F in the outside corner). Three squares down from the top, draw a line horizontally and place the title “Table of Contents” above the line. Repeat this for the rest of the pages. This will be where you will keep a list of all of the assignments you include in your lab book. Each time you add to your lab book, you will add the page that entry is kept on and its title to the Table of Contents. You will fill this in as we progress through the semester. Friendly reminder: Use only black or blue ink for the title. Use pencil for daily entry. Starting on the front page after the last “Table of Contents” page, number each page in the upper outside corner, front and back, up to page 68. Handouts will be taped into your lab book in chronological order. You will fold the paper in half and tape the top of the page into the seam of the lab book so that the page can be unfolded and completely seen. Your lab book will be a collection of your thinking and work. Because it will be graded, you do not want to misplace or lose it. Writing neatly and drawing perfectly takes time and talent. You are expected to take your time and try best to make your lab book something you can be proud of and keep as a record of your hard work. Remember, when you are absent, it is your responsibility to get caught up and get any missing work. You will have one day to make up any work for each day you are absent. You need to have your lab book with you every day. If you don’t have your lab book in class, you are responsibility for getting caught up. Coming to tutoring on Thursdays is a great time to make up work.
