Mobile phones in class: The technology revolution of 2015! (Using mobile phones to improve learning)

Technology can be quite seductive...

Ivestigated whether students would rather watch lectures live on on close circuit tv. “The use of radio will allow the reduction of skilled personnel needed to manage a classroom”

So what about phones? (Semrau & Boyer, 1994)

Will smart phones revolutionise education? -Scientific calculators -Access to the internet -Dictaphones -Video recorders -Still cameras -Organisers -Stop watches -Interactive atlases -Compasses GPS locating Suppliment to learning

Still teach in groups with a single teacher

Does this mean we shouldn’t use mobile phones in class? Obvious no-nos.. -Do not want to increase teacher workload. -Introduce initiatives that do not benefit learning. -Use up valuable lesson time needed to complete curriculums.. *A connective that suggests the opposite view... -prepare students for a technology filled workplace. -Engage students in class. -improve responsibility of learning.

Using mobile media tech to improve exam technique Outline the main components of a nuclear reactor and explain how electricity is produced. (6 marks)

Potential worries... Students will be off task! Students will abuse the technology! Students may not have the equipment Access to WiFi and phone signal
