Warning Signs of Suicide Talk If a person talks about Killing themselves Having no reason to live Being a burden to others Feeling trapped Unbearable pain

Warning Signs Continued Behavior If a person’s behavior is new or has increased: Increased alcohol or drugs Searching online, writing or drawing about killing themselves. Acting recklessly Withdrawing from family, friends or favorite activities Giving away possessions Sleeping too little or too much Saying goodbye to people Inability to concentrate

Warning Signs Continued: Mood People considering suicide often display one or more of the following moods. Depression Loss of interest in everything Rage Irritability Humiliation Anxiety

What can you do to help a friend? Do not be afraid to talk to your friends. Listen to their feelings. Make sure they know how important they are to you. Make no deals. Never keep secret a friend’s suicidal plans or thoughts. You can not promise that you will not tell---you have to tell to save your friend. Tell an adult. Talk to your parent, your friend’s parent, any of the school staff. Tell a trusted adult. DON’T WAIT. Even if you are not sure that your friend is serious, tell an adult immediately! What do you do if a friend texts you at night? What do you do if you are on a social media site and see warning signs?
