Who cares about social justice issues? Why should we care?

Unit Title: Social Justice Focus Question: How can I make a difference? Learning Intention: To understand the action of one group on a social justice issue. Success Criteria: To complete a higher level thinking task relating to the topic. Last Lesson Self-Examination This Lesson Church Action Next Lesson Human Ecology

In text: (Caritas.org.uk 2016) a) Research one example of a Catholic charity addressing a social justice issue. b) When you are finished, create a kahoot quiz about what you have learnt so far about social justice issues. Reference example: In text: (Caritas.org.uk 2016)  In reference list: Caritas.org.au.uk 2016, Caritas Australia, http://www.caritas.org.au, (accessed 10 Apr. 2016). Examples of Catholic charities are: Caritas Australia Rosies Catholic Mission Catholic Earthcare Australia St Vincent de Paul Society Catholic Social Services Australia Note: There are a few useful links on our weebly (under section 1.3).

What is the social issue of your chosen charity? Can you explain how your charity is making a difference? How can YOU help your charity? What could you, your friends, your family members and/ or school community do? Find facts and/ or statistics which prove your charity is doing a worthwhile job. (These can be either about the charity or the issue.) Construct a mind map about the key ideas of your organisation. (See weebly section 1.3) Read the newspaper article on our weebly and justify the statement: “Charities have usually a good cause in mind but they are not always effective.” (See weebly section 1.3, click on “BBC- Arguments against charity”) Choose your own task based on your confidence on the topic! Tip: Work at your own pace, this is not a race!
