1 Watch the clip ‘Asking strangers for food’ on our weebly and think about it how you could make a ‘difference’ to someone’s day or even life.

2 Unit Title: Social Justice
Focus Question: How can I make a difference? Learning Intention: To understand how you can make a difference. Success Criteria: To complete a higher level thinking task relating to the topic. Last Lesson Judgements This Lesson Make a difference Next Lesson Consolidation

3 How many social justice issues can you identify today?
Use this video to help you think about issues that arose in the twentieth century that might still apply today and then answer the following questions: Which of these issues do you feel most strongly about? Why? Which of these issues seem ‘unrealistic’ or ‘unbelievable’ to you? Why? On which of these issues could YOU have the most impact? How?

4 Define what ‘making a difference’ means.
Discuss how the Catholic Church, the school community and you could make a difference by helping others. Construct a diagram for Saints’ students how to deal and/ or who to report to in a social justice issue at school (e.g. bullying). Find and copy three passages from our online bible, which refer to us humans making a difference in someone’s life. Create a poster which shows how Saints’ students can make a difference by helping others. What could be 5 questions you could use in a survey about social justice issues in and around Cairns? Ask a few students around you those questions and note down their answers. Did you expect different answers? Why or why not? Choose your own task based on your confidence on the topic! Tip: Work at your own pace, this is not a race!
