Ms. Burton's Back to School PowerPoint Welcome to 6th Grade! Ms. Burton's Back to School PowerPoint

Ms. Burton's Goals I believe in setting goals to help focus your weeks, months and year. These are my goals for the coming school year. Prepare every student for the rigor of Junior High Have each student develop a love for learning Develop a safe teaching environment where students learn to be responsible, work hard, develop grit, and become problem solvers

Ms. Burton Hi! I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer, full of adventure and activities. I am so excited to be teaching this group of students for the second year in a row. I know most of your students; and hopefully, they know who I am too. We are going to be doing so much this year. I am excited to get started.

About Ms. Burton I grew up in Wyoming and Idaho. When I was fourteen my family moved from Rock Springs, WY to Rexburg, ID to be closer to family and start a business. I participated on many teams including basketball, soccer, and the track team. I love playing and watching sports. (Go Jazz!)

About Ms. Burton I have two older brothers and a younger sister. Our family loved playing outdoors, camping, and hiking. Learning has been an adventure with my family.

About Ms. Burton I come from a family of teachers. My paternal grandparents were both teachers. She taught math to Jr. High students and he was a welding professor at Ricks College. Education has been a priority in my family, as both my parents and their parents have set high expectations for us. We have always been encouraged to get degrees and to do what we love. My aunts and a few cousins are also teachers.

About Ms. Burton I went to school at BYU- Idaho and received my bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I then became certified to teach in Utah. I have been teaching for a year and a half and I have loved every minute of it. (Even the hard days)

What to Expect To help prepare students for Jr. High this year we are having class rotations. Students need to be ORGANIZED so that they know when assignments are due and which teacher to turn them in to.

Planners Students will write their assignments down in their planner and when they are due. Planners that are returned the next day with a parent signature will get a ticket for auctions, class parties, and drawings that the class will have.

Missing/Late Work Students will be notified of missing work on Fridays. They have until the next Thursday to turn any missing assignments in. ALL LATE WORK will have points deducted from the final score. Any work not turned in by the end of the day on Thursday will receive a zero.

Procedures We are implementing a school wide behavior plan this year. Look for more information throughout the year from Mrs. Fredricks and myself. I will also be using tickets this year. Students will find out what they can earn throughout the year with their tickets.

Homework The purpose of homework is to: Reinforce/review content Complete unfinished class work Complete a project or book report with materials from home To help students learn responsibility Prepare students for the rigor of Jr. High

Homework Students will need to read for 30 minutes each night, Monday to Friday. Reading out loud is a great way to practice fluency. I would encourage students to read out loud for five minutes. Other reading assignments will be based on classroom assignments, monthly book reports, and projects. Students will also receive homework assignments from other teachers.

Communication There are three ways to communicate with me, email being the best. mburton@dsdmail.net Remind Call 801-496-2600 Communication is key to a great year. I appreciate hearing from you. Please feel free to contact me at any of the ways listed above.

Preparing for Back to School Night Please read the class disclosure found on my webpage. There will be copies for you to sign at our back to school night. There is also a school supply list on my website. Please note that any student who brings a pencil box to school will be asked to take it home. Come with any questions that you have for me. Sign up for Remind. (You can sign up for text, email, or you can download the app for free.)
