Place Value Module 3 Mrs. Searls

What is place value? Place value is how much a digit is worth depending on where it is in a number. For example in the number 675 What is the value of the 6?

Numbers are read left to right… So, think about our example 675 The 6 is in the hundreds So its value is 600

Let’s look at that again… 675 Here is the same number, but this time, let’s look at the 7. It is in the tens place, so you think of it as 7tens. How much is 7 tens? 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70

Now let’s look at the ones… 675 The number 5 is in the ones place so the value is 5 ones 1,2,3,4, 5

So it looks like this…. 675

Check this out…. http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/placevalue/value.htm

So remember…. 1=one 10= ten ones or 1 ten 100= one hundred ones or 10 tens 1000=one thousand ones or 10 hundreds

Listen to this…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W47G-h7myY

Now, let’s practice…
