1 Rounding Numbers

2 What’s the Golden Rule?

3 If the digit is five or more, around up.
For example: 36 would become 40.

4 If the digit is less than 5, you round down.
For example: 23 would become 20.

5 Here are more examples. 56 becomes 60 98 becomes 100 14 becomes 10

6 What about bigger numbers?

7 Round 154 to the nearest tens.

8 First, underline the digit in the tens place.
154

9 Next, look at the digit to the right.
154

10 If it is less than 5, the tens digit stays the same and the ones digit becomes a 0.

11 What if the number was 178?

12 Follow the same rule. 178

13 The 7 in the tens place becomes an 8
The 7 in the tens place becomes an 8. The 8 in the ones place becomes a 0.
