Place Value The name of the “place” where a digit is within a given number e.x. 456,722 7 = hundreds place value Expanded Notation “Expanding” a number (making it longer) by naming each digits place value

When writing a number in “expanded notation”: Steps: 1. Name each digits place value 2. Place a “+” sign between each digit Ex. 3,724 3 = thousands 7 = hundreds 2 = tens 4 = ones In expanded notation: 3 thousands + 7 hundreds + 2 tens + 4 ones

Write in “expanded notation”: 1,203,407 1 millions + 2 hundred thousands + 3 thousands + 4 hundreds + 7 ones **0’s do NOT need to be identified, unless asked for
