2016 cost of congestion in Charlotte $442,000,000 2016 cost of congestion in Charlotte

2016 cost of congestion per driver in Charlotte $878 2016 cost of congestion per driver in Charlotte

250,000 Automobiles expected to be brought to Charlotte by 400,000 new residents between now and 2040

The amount of infrastructure and space the 44 people moving to Charlotte each day are bringing with them The good news is just this past Monday night, City Council approved the new Transportation Action Plan (which is updated every 5 years) and Charlotte’s first ever pedestrian plan called Charlotte WALKS. These plans include goals for increasing the use of sustainable forms of transportation.

7.2% 2014 percent of work commutes taken on foot, by bicycle, or by transit in Charlotte As of 2014, 7.2% trips in the City of Charlotte were taken on foot, by bike, or by transit. Based on CDOT’s methodology using the U.S. Census’ American Community Survey.

10% Charlotte Department of Transportation’s goal for percent of citywide work commutes taken on foot, by bicycle, or by transit in 2040 This challenge is designed to help our area SURPASS the 10% goal and place Charlotte among the national leaders in sustainable transportation.

Percent of Charlotteans who would like to drive less 63.5% Percent of Charlotteans who would like to drive less

Percent of Charlotteans who would like to bicycle more 50.7% Percent of Charlotteans who would like to bicycle more

Percent of Charlotteans who would like to walk more 76.6% Percent of Charlotteans who would like to walk more The data is clear. Driving alone is unsustainable in our fast-growing region. And local residents want other ways to get around. Without a doubt, we need to expand infrastructure to make walking, biking, and riding transit safer and more convenient. However, we believe many residents would try new ways of getting around if they were simply inspired to do so.

56% Percent of Charlotteans who live within a 10 minute walk of a public transit stop

So let’s inspire residents to get around in new ways.

What if you knew the health, environmental, and financial impacts of your transportation choices before you hit the road?

What if this information was available at your fingertips?

What if you could win prizes simply for trying new ways of getting around?

What if you could do all of this as part of a team of neighbors or co-workers?

What if getting around town was actually fun?

What if this all this was free?

Now it is.

Introducing a better way to roll...

Way2Go CLT is an innovative initiative to reduce miles driven alone by 1,000,000 across the Charlotte region by October 31, 2017. Instead of driving alone, which we know is unsustainable as our region’s population skyrockets, residents will be encouraged and rewarded for biking, riding public transit, walking, and carpooling.
