Magnet design ERMC coil RMM coil Structure Cable being braided @ CGP. Expected delivery Coil components fabrication launched. Expected delivery July Trace design will start on W20. First prototype expected by September RMM coil Pole design to be completed. Reaction and impregnation test to be performed Structure Shell: price inquiry for raw material on-going Yoke, pad: drawings ready to launch procurement End-plates, rods: order of raw material, design to be completed with connection box Connection box: not yet started

Order of priority Jeremie: Jakub Insertion table Axial loading system Rotating tool Ground insulation tooling Jakub Splicing tool RMM pole QH and vtaps Connection box with end-plate and tooling Coils lifting tools

ERMC components & tooling design Jakub Osieleniec

ERMC Splicing tooling design

Required tooling : Clamping tool – cable clamping during splicing operation Tinning tool – Tinning operation to stabilise the cable before splicing Cutting tool – Cutting the tinned cable to the required length Splicing tool – Connection of Nb3Sn and NbTi cables Design status: CAD models for clamping, tinning and cutting ready What has to be done: CAD models for splicing Drawings for all processes components Modification of the reaction mold base for splicing tool clamping

Clamping tool

Tinning tool

Cutting tool

Other components status: ERMC coil components: manufacturing in progress Magnet Structure: yoke, pads, shells drawings signed and ready to launch the fabrication Coil pack lifting system: manufacturing drawings completed Impregnation mold: manufacturing in progress Reaction mold: manufacturing in progress (except HFMMHERT0014 – base plate; some modification needed to accommodate the splice tooling) Material order for ERMC End Plate (Nitronic 50) is done; final design of the end plate to be completed including the connection box design

What next… Splicing tooling drawings to be completed Traces design: Quench heater, voltage taps & Spot-heaters Connection Box + End Plate design to be completed Study of RMM central post sealing during impregnation

ERMC Introduction table

Requirements : Compatibility with: Be able to support 8 tons max - RMC Magnet: L820, Ø570 - ERMC Magnet: L1240, Ø800 - ERMC Magnet with graded coils: L1435.6, Ø800 Be able to support 8 tons max  Possibility to set up the distance between the coil-pack and the shell Repeatability of the magnet position Keep the first table as base and modify this Adapted for bladders extraction Be able to do axial loading Be able to do azimuthal loading Be able to mount/dismount bladders Be able to mount end-plates on ERMC magnet

Solutions : compatibility Position 1: ERMC graded coils   Position 2: ERMC   Position 3: RMC

Solutions : Position Repeatability: Pin to insure the correct position on the lower table   “Grenouillère” to clamp the upper table in different positions

Solutions : Bladders extraction Upper table removed In work during bladders extraction, with end-plates and rods

Solutions : Adaptable 2 positions for each ERMC magnet Adaptable with the old RMC support

Solutions : Position -Threaded pins with screws and nuts mechanism for height set up -Spherical end in conical hole for repeatability

Solutions Side friction block

Solutions 2 positions for needle bearings Guide set up
