Chapter 2: Driver’s License Exams

Driver’s License Exams When applying for a driver’s license, you will be required to take vision, written and driving exams You will be allowed three attempts to pass within one year from the date you paid your application fee

Vision Screening Minimum visual acuity with or without corrective lenses (20-40) (ability to see clearly) Daylight driving restrictions (20/41-20/70) See at least 140 degree peripheral vision (ability to see to the side) If you wear glasses/contacts , a restriction will be noted on driver’s license and you must always wear your glasses while driving

Written Exam Questions will come from the Rules of the Road booklet There are two parts (Signs and traffic laws/safety rules) Students must pass with an 80% Questions will be true/false, multiple choice and matching All driver’s must take a written exam every eight years, except those having no traffic convictions

Driving Exam If you have a traffic crash or other moving violation on your driving record you may be required to take the written and/or driving exams

Driving Exam To take a driving exam, the vehicle you provide must: Be properly licensed Comply with Secretary of State vehicle condition standards (proper working condition) Be properly insured Display valid front and rear license plates with valid registration sticker Be driven to the facility by a driver who has a valid driver’s license

Driving Exam Driver will automatically fail if you violate any traffic law or commit any dangerous action while driving

Driving Exam Driver’s will be graded on the following driving skills: Start the vehicle and make proper adjustments Back up vehicle (50 feet) Turn-around (Near/far lane) Park up and down hill Start up and down hill from a parked position Control your vehicle while driving
