Kairos Prison Ministry International KAIROS OUTSIDE CONTINUING MINISTRY Eloise Maddix Garnette Walls Welcome to Kairos Outside Continuing Ministry. We will cover the purpose of continuing ministry and its importance, Reunions, SWAP, Kairos Outside Issues, How to change the issues to solutions and implementing goals and then there will be a test (kidding) In order for us to move along we ask that you hold your questions until the end. We have provided “post-it” notes you can use to write down your questions so when it comes Q&A time we will try to answer them for you. Being Present

PURPOSE OF CONTINUING MINISTRY The purpose of Kairos Outside is to demonstrate God’s grace and love through Christian support for women who have have been impacted by incarceration. It is important to remember that this support does not end when the weekend is over. Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry Building a Strong Community: 1 John 3:19: “This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence.” Staying connected with each other. Supporting the community to grow. Gathering regularly for prayer Maintain Ministry Activities, Weekend Reunions, and S.W.A.P The Continuing Ministry is needed to provide the communication and connection that was started on the Kairos Outside weekend to continue to grow. Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry Keeping Kairos Outside Guests and team connected through support systems. Provides a opportunity for everyone to share their lives with each other. We are strengthened through the activities which allow community growth. Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry REUNIONS: Acts 2:28: You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. Reunions provide the connection needed for the support system to grow. Reunions keep everyone connected to the larger Kairos Outside Community. Reunions are successful when we make the effort by extending an invitation to attend Reunions should be interesting & fun as well as sharing & prayer. Reunions should be held at a minimum of four (4) times a year. Should be scheduled within two (2) or three (3) weeks of a weekend. Should be held in varying locations in your area so the same people are not driving long distances each time. The Advisory Council Continuing Ministry Coordinator and her committee should make up a yearly calendar listing the dates, times and location of Reunions. The Continuing Ministry Coordinator should arrange for people to lead and host the Reunions held in their vicinity. The responsibilities for hosting a reunion are found on page 186 in your program manual. Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry Share: Witness: Accountability: Prayer: (S.W.A.P.) 1 Thessalonians 3:9: How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you. Having Christian support group in their life. Encouraging the guests to join a support group after their Weekend experience. Encouraging guests to find a church family who will support them after the weekend as they continue their life’s journey. When you meet use the SWAP card Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry Share -Being able to Communicate. Witness -Giving Christ’s Love to others Account -Making changes in our lives Prayer -Praying for one another Share – Choices they want to make in the future Witness – When they felt Christ’s love in their lives and when they tried to help someone else recognize God’s love in their live Account – How they are progressing (or not) in making the changes they want to make in their lives Prayer – Ask for prayers for themselves for thanksgiving and support CONFIDENTIALITY is imperative and the group must be discrete. Each person must be open and risk being vulnerable just like the speakers were on the weekend. Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry Kairos Outside Issues: Exodus 33:14: The Lord replied “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest” Changes in contact information Transportation Covering large geographical area Lack of interest Work Schedules Visitation On the returned surveys that were sent to all Kairos Outside Advisory Councils had the first three (3) issues listed as their main concern. Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry How to Change The Issues to Solutions After calling, texting and emailing keep database updated Reports from each area or group on a consistent basis Table leaders keep guest together by teleconference Use SWAP card at end of weekend with demonstration by team members Forming a support group is similar to becoming a table family on a weekend. Good places to start looking for possible group members are: Contact someone from your weekend or a person you met at the follow-up reunion, your other friends, neighbors, people you work with or worship with. Where and when a group meets - look for a place you can meet regularly, your workplace, the institution, your church. People you see repeatedly as you wait to go through processing when visiting your loved one. Ask them to join you for coffee or whatever, just a chance to visit and get to know each other. Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry Secure angels to provide transportation Make sure meeting schedules do not interfere with other weekends Invite Guest who has not made a weekend to come to the Reunion and S.W.A.P. Forming and maintaining a support group takes perseverance, patience, time, lots of effort, and heart, especially when you build them from scratch. Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry Continue with Reunion and SWAP even if a few come out Be consistent and dedicated for continuing ministry grouping to work Attending more Reunions better the chance to stay connected Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry Implementing Goals: Jude 1:24: To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy. Divide large area into groups with team member assistance Make known the importance of building relationship with others and God Educate others about Kairos Outside; one on one recruiting Deliver information early concerning meetings Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry Motivate Interest with leaders who are well trained in the ministry Listen to other Communities, insert their ideas into your plan Make Reunion enjoyable and exciting, they will want to come back Always think on the three P’s: being Prayerful, being Persistence, and being Present Being Present

The Importance of Continuing Ministry Q & A Being Present
