The Manhattan Project and Beyond Dropping the Atomic Bombs on Japan SHOULD WE HAVE?

YALTA CONFERENCE FDR, Churchill, and Stalin met in February of 1945 to discuss Germany’s UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER and DE-NAZIFICATION after WWII Germany was divided into 4 parts Controlled by France, United States, Great Britain, and USSR Stalin agreed that “FREE ELECTIONS” would take place in Eastern (Soviet controlled) Germany THIS DID NOT HAPPEN and led to hostility during the Cold War between the USSR and USA

Manhattan Project The Manhattan Project began modestly in 1939, but grew to employ more than 130,000 people and cost nearly US $2 billion (roughly equivalent to $25.8 billion as of 2013).

HIROSHIMA Bombed An estimated 80,000 people were killed immediately. By the end of the year, injury and radiation brought total casualties to 90,000–140,000. Approximately 69% of the city's buildings were completely destroyed, and another 7% severely damaged.

NAGASAKI Bombed 3 days after Hiroshima About 70,000 people were killed by the bomb codenamed “Fat Man." According to statistics, the death toll from the atomic bombing totaled 73,884, as well as another 74,909 injured Another several hundred thousand diseased and dying due to fallout and other illness caused by radiation Japan surrenders September 2, 1945
