Energy in Germany

We use gasoline and diesel to drive. All that needs energy. Traffic, heating, or eletricity almost everything needs energy. We use gasoline and diesel to drive. We most of our heaters use oil or gas for heating. We produce most of our electricity with coal-, atomic- and gas power stations. Germany consumes 105,7 million tons of oil per year. Germany consumes 95,9 billion m³ of oil per year.

Germany has not enough of these resources in their own land area. We import about 90 million tons of oil per year. We import 97,9 billion m³ of gas.

j Germany is the sixth biggest oil importer. Germany is the second biggest gas importer. Germany is the eighth biggest oil consumer in the world. Germany is the fifth biggest gas consumer in the world. j

Co2 emission in Germany The limit of greenhouse gas emission in Germany is 452.8 Mio. tons per year In 2011 the emission was 450 Mio. tons 87.4% of the greenhouse gas emission was Co2 Fossil energy sources cause the most Co2 emission

Reasons for Co2 emissions

Nuclear power stations 2011 Germany reduces the number of nuclear power stations Rate of consumption of coal rises about 4.9% No negative effects for Co2 emission

Coal-fired power stations Coal causes more emission than oil There is only enough coal for the next 200 years There is only enough oil for the next 41 years Oil costs more than coal More emission Coal is used more than oil

Coal and gas

Renewable energies

The aims of the government - Part of renewable energies in energy production around 35% until 2020 - Reducing demand of primary energies around 50% until 2050 - 1 million electric cars until 2020, 6 million until 2030 - No atomic energy until 2022

Measures of the government In 2011 Germany spends: - 5 billion euros for the offshore installations in North and Baltic Sea - 200 million euros for development of options to store renewable energies - 2 billion euros for development of electric cars - 1,5 billion euros for renovation of private houses
