Create a band I don’t wanna hang out with a bunch of wannabe corporate sell outs. I’m gonna form my own band and we’re gonna start a revolution, OK? And you’re gonna be a funny little footnote on my epic ass! Jack Black, school of rock. You are going to create and manage a band, including all the electronic promotion material: Logo Website App/game Digital Advert Budget

Step 1: Creating the band identity and logo

Logo Learning Outcomes Essential: To create a simple logo with one image and simple editing. Stretch: To create a logo relevant to the audience, with 2 images, text and some complex editing techniques. Challenge: To create a professional logo with a clear house style and genre. Combine images well and use multiple complex editing techniques.

Task 1: Create your band Name of band Band members and roles Band Name Rule It can be no more than two words (excluding THE). Task 1: Create your band Name of band S0l Band members and roles Drummer, Base guitar, electric guitar, Lead singer Music genre Rock music Target audience/fan base Teenagers and people in their 30s to 50s. Public image Rock star image to people. Your band’s message No matter what we will be making music all the way.

Use Google images to find 5 logos that represent a music band Task 2: Research Use Google images to find 5 logos that represent a music band 1 2 3 4 5 Logo Example number Source URL 1 https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwihu8aggevKAhVMvxQKHT8sAFEQjRwIBw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fgroups.ultimate-guitar.com%2Fbreathinginsulfur%2Fpictures%2Fpersonal%2F1079196%2F&psig=AFQjCNEyVYXfqsU9ZghXmXSCSKHiVOfbbw&ust=1455118550243784 2 https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiB4tPBgevKAhVJ1RQKHZ5DCEQQjRwIBw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.famouslogos.us%2Fmetallica-logo%2F&psig=AFQjCNEusa7zkREC3jAntNlgqjCfhSz5qw&ust=1455118640529342 3 https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQx4ji5kqd6JJZHq_EqEdAxxna1_Hq4k3uEaVaPmRz9tMajIMH7ww:https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/d3/02/f1/d302f17a04e7f1b452ed94c65eedd252.jpg 4 http://piercingmetal.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Logo-Trivium.jpg 5 http://loudwire.com/files/2012/08/Iron-Maiden-Logo.jpg

Task 3: Analysis No. Features Likes Dislike 1 2 3 4 5 Decide what the common features are, and what you like and dislike about the logos. There are examples of reviews on the next slide No. Features Likes Dislike 1 Only a few colours. It has a unique design The background is foggy and it does not fit in. 2 Only black and white. It is very simple. There are no dislikes. 3 It cant be copied easily. It is a good logo and makes sense that it is for a band called misfits. It can be a bit complex. 4 It is very simple and it can easily be noticed. It is a bit too simple for a band logo. 5 It is the band name. It is a very good font. As I said for trivium, it is too simple.

Example reviews Essential: I like the colours used and the picture looks funky. I don’t like the font that has been used. Stretch: I like the colours used, as it is only black and greens and makes the image clear to read. The picture of a frog matches the name of the band. I don’t like the font as it is very bland and old fashioned. Challenge: This is a pop band, aiming at a young audience. The image of a frog is funky and young in style which suits the band. The colour scheme is black and green, which is very bold and easy to read, so it is easy for the audience to pick out. It also ties into the name because of the use of green, the most common colour of a frog. I don’t think the font is suitable because it looks very old fashioned and this is meant to be a young band.

Task 4: Create Your Logo You must create an original logo for you band. It must: Be one you have created yourself using digital tools Have at least one image included. Have a style that shows what kind of music your band will play. Have no more than 3 colours. Be no larger than 600x600 pixels.

Logo difficulty Essential: To create a simple logo with one image and simple editing. Stretch: To create a logo relevant to the audience, with 2 images, text and some complex editing techniques. Challenge: To create a professional logo with a clear house style and genre. Combine images well and use multiple complex editing techniques.

Print screen of your logo first draft When you have complete the first draft of your logo place it here.

Task 5: Peer reviews Feedback Provider Positive aspects Areas to improve Test Buddy 1 It suits the name and looks amazing. It could have writing. Test Buddy 2 It has lots of detail. The blue does not really fit in.

Task 6: improvements 3 improvements I would like to make to my logo are: Using the same sort of colours and not dark then bright. I could add a bit of writing to it so it is not just a logo. Nothing else that can be thought of.

Print screen of your improved logo Stretch: Can you annotate to identify what has been improved. Challenge: Your annotation needs to explain why the changes improve the logo for the target audience.

Review How did you make your logo style match your bands style? It was the same design. What graphics skills did you need to use to make the logo? I used the paint bucket in Photoshop. Think of a problem that you had and explain how you solved it. I had a problem with too bright of a blue outline so I changed it to a darker colour. What feedback did you receive from your test buddy? Was this useful? He told me it is now looking better but it would look even better with writing. What could be improved about your logo? Next time I could add a word like the name of the band.

Description of performance Spelling and Grammar Matter How are you getting on with spelling, punctuation and grammar in your review work? Level Description of performance Student Teacher I am still trying to spell words correctly and write in full sentences which start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. I am still trying to use some ICT key words in my answer. 1 I can spell some words correctly and often use full sentences which start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. There are some mistakes but my meaning is still clear. I have used one or two ICT key words appropriately. 2-3 I can spell most words correctly and write in full sentences nearly all the time. My basic punctuation e.g. commas and question marks is generally accurate and I have used a range of ICT keywords appropriately. 4-5 I can spell accurately and use punctuation including commas, question marks, speech marks etc. accurately. My meaning is clear and well expressed and I have used a wide range of ICT key words appropriately and effectively. Set yourself a literacy target for the next assessment:
