Presentation transcript:

Bell Ringer – June 6 Take a mini whiteboard, dry erase marker, and Jenna Fox book from the table. Write the following summary on your finals study page: Pages 187-194: The escape plan is for Lily to take Jenna to Edward, and then he will take them both to Italy. Jenna wonders, “Am I enough?” She unlocked the closet, and no one is home. Be prepared to share out your answers to yesterday’s crossword!

Reminders Wednesday and Thursday are the only days I’m available this week after school. Thursday is your last chance to raise your grade on current and late assignments. Please return books that you borrowed from me and erase your name from my whiteboard.

Jenna Fox – pages 195-205 Write important details on your finals study page as we read

Mini whiteboard practice Turn to an elbow partner. We will switch writers each question. Write down 2 sentences in a row that show suspense from pages 195 or 196

Mini whiteboard practice Switch writers List 3 words that show imagery from pages 196 and 197

Mini whiteboard practice Switch writers List context clues and write a possible definition of the bolded word: “All three stare at me, the impervious Jenna Fox, at the center of attention once again.”

Mini whiteboard practice Switch writers List context clues and write a possible definition of the bolded word: “However primitive my digestive system may be, it seems to appreciate Lily’s effort, even if the wine is tasteless.”

Break! Put your whiteboards and markers away. When you get back from break, pick up a piece of tape and a handout from the supply table. Tape it to your Context Clue page. Write the following summary on your finals study page: Pages 206-209: At school everyone watches The Medical Access Act is being discussed by senators. If passed, it will cut the FSEB out of everything, allowing for more experiments.

Jenna Fox – pages 210-220 You choose: partner read, read silently, read out loud, read parts as a class, take turns… Keep track of words/quotes to write on your chart as we read.

Turn and talk Turn to an elbow partner and discuss: why do you think authors use figurative language in their writing? Be ready to share out with the class.

Turn to your bell ringer section Write a thesis statement for the following prompt in your bell ringer section: Explain why Mary E Pearson, author of The Adoration of Jenna Fox, chooses to use figurative language in her book. Use evidence from Jenna Fox to support your answer in a mini essay. More relevant, convincing, creates pictures for their readers, more engaging, communicates a hard to understand idea more clearly, help the reader make new realizations, think on a deeper level

Finals study page Write the summary: Pages 221-223: Mr. Bender gives Jenna his jacket, touches her hand, and a sparrow lands on Jenna’s hand.
