2 TODAY’S TARGET: We can review things a close reader does by reading and discussing “Inside Out”. Do Now: The GIST MIX & SHARE Read pages 4-9 Re Read pages 4-9 and Write the gist for each Journal Entry. Stand up and find another student and share your gist with them.

5 Take a few minutes to read the questions independently.
Just as we took our time reading one poem yesterday, we are going to do something similar today, reading the poem “Inside Out” closely. Take out “Inside Out” text-dependent questions Unit 1 Lesson 3 from your binders. Take a few minutes to read the questions independently. We will use a Think-Pair-Share protocol to answer these questions. First, listen as I read “inside out” to you. Think-Pair-Share: “What is this poem mostly about?”

11 Quick Write In order to help us keep track of our thinking, or think more carefully about specific sections of the text, we will often complete a Quick Write. Quick Write: a short piece of written analysis about the text. Sometimes we will do this in class, and sometimes for homework.

17 Homework # Reread pages 4–9 of Inside Out & Back Again (from “Inside Out” through “Papaya Tree”). QuickWrite 1: What kind of person is Ha? Use specific evidence from the text to write a paragraph in which you discuss one of Ha’s personality traits. A complete paragraph will include a focus statement, several pieces of textual evidence, explanations about what each piece of evidence shows us about Ha, and a concluding sentence. Use the notes you collected in your journal to help you write this paragraph
