During the March on Washington DC,he gave the speech “I have a dream”. Received the Nobel Prize for Peace . Martin Luther King, Jr. was murdered.

What was the blacks’ situation in the southern states before 1964? Law . Marriage Public places Education Vote The southern passed their own law to separate the whites and the blacks. Mixed marriage was forbidden. There were separate sections for blacks in shops, restaurants, hospitals and buses. Black children were educated in separate schools. Black people had no right to vote.
