We will focus on: Light and Shade, Rendering of Form, Composition, Mark Making, Illusion of Depth

WRITE THESE TERMS IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK Value- Lightness or Darkness of an object. Rendering of Form – the process of formulating, adding color, shading, and texturing of an image. It can also be used to describe the quality of execution of that process. Composition -in painting, graphic design, photography, and sculpture— composition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of a work Mark Making- term used to describe the different lines, patterns, and textures we create in an artwork. Illusion of Depth- the illusion of space on a 2D surface

Artist Study Deborah Cauchi

Artist Statement “My work can be divided into three main activities: portrait painting, still life and paintings of toys, especially Lego, of which I have a “healthy” obsession. Inspiration comes from my own experiences relating to human emotions and memories of childhood. I am drawn to the seductive nature of toys, attracted by their colour and simplified shape. I like to take that long forgotten or much loved object and give it a moment in the spotlight. I am also interested in the emotional attachment that is formed with such inanimate objects, and how people give them personality and life through their imagination, whatever the age. Paint is applied both figuratively and abstractly. Whilst all my paintings are representational, they are not limited to a particular style and the experimentation of the paint plays a major role in my art.My current work combines my love of vintage items and Lego to produce little detailed paintings that seem to make people smile; which is always a good thing.” - Deborah Cauchi
