2 Principles and Element of Art Line- i s the path of a point moving through space Shape - implies spatial form and is usually perceived as two-dimensional. Form- has depth, length, and width and resides in space. It is perceived as three- dimensional. Texture - refers to the tactile qualities of a surface (actual) or to the visual representation of such surface qualities (implied Value - refers to relative lightness and darkness and is perceived in terms of varying levels of contrast Space - refers to variations in the proportions of objects, lines or shapes. There is a variation of sizes in objects either real or imagined. Color- refers to specific hues and has 3 properties, Chroma, Intensity and Value

3 Principles and Element of Art Pattern - refers to the repetition or reoccurrence of a design element, exact or varied, which establishes a visual beat Rhythm/Movement -refers to the suggestion of motion through the use of various elements. Proportion/Scale -is the size relationship of parts to a whole and to one another. Scale refers to relating size to a constant, such as a human body. Balance -is the impression of equilibrium in a pictorial or sculptural composition. Emphasis -is the impression of equilibrium in a pictorial or sculptural composition. Unity -achieved when the components of a work of art are perceived as harmonious, giving the work a sense of completion

5 Art Genres Pop Art Pop Art is a movement that began in the mid 1950s in Britain. It imitates methods, styles, and themes of popular culture and mass media. It’s often found in comic strips, advertising and science. Pointillism Pointillism is the art in which an artist uses many points and dots to create an image. Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed this technique in 1886. Abstract Abstract artist didn’t always make the pictures clear. They used different types of colors in their paintings to show their emotions. Postimpressionism Postimpressionism was mainly landscapes and still lifes. There was many shadows and colors used.

6 My Favorite Genre Cubism Pablo Picasso –He is one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20 th century. Pablo was the creator of Cubism.
