1. Every Spanish verb has 2 parts. One part is the stem. The other part is the ending. Ej: Hablar is a Spanish verb. For now, we will focus on the group that ends with –ar. Stem Ending Habl ar com er escrib ir

2. The stem tells you the meaning. It does not change. Hablar-to talk Comer-to eat Escribir- to write

3. The ending tells you who you’re talking to or about. Notice: The ending changes with each point of view. Remove the –ar before adding any new endings! Singular Plural First Person Yo hablo nosotros(as) hablamos Second Person Tú hablas vosotros(as) hablaís Third Person Él, ella, ud. habla ellos(as),uds. hablan

4. How do I conjugate an infinitive? A verb that still has its original –ar, -er or –ir ending is called an infinitive. In English, infinitives are preceded by the word “to”. Ej: Hablar means “to talk”. Comer means “to eat”. Escribir means “to write”. When you give the verb a subject, we call that conjugating. Ej: Hablo means “I talk”.

5. Infinitivo: hablar Infinitive: to speak (talk) Las Formas Singulares Yo } hablo } I speak. or Do I speak? Tú } hablas } You speak. or Do you speak?
