Presentation transcript:

The Scientific Method Learning Target Goal: I can explain the steps of the scientific process.

Notebook Setup Open your notebooks to page 32 Title the page: Steps of the Scientific Method Date the page: August 29, 2017 Add the entry to your table of contents

Notebook Setup Draw a line down the pink line on the left side of the page to create 2 columns. Label the columns: Left: Topic Right: Notes

Scientific Method Problem Solving in a scientific Way Follows a specific pattern of steps

Step 1: Question What the scientist wants to know about. Must be able to be answered by doing an experiment.

Step 2: Research Gather information about the topic of your question so that you may create a hypothesis.

Step 3: Form a Hypothesis A Prediction of what you think the result of the experiment will be that is based on research.

Step 4: Procedures/Experiment Procedures are detailed step by step instructions for how to conduct the experiment. The procedures are followed to conduct the experiment.

Step 5: Record Data During the experiment you record your measurements (data) into a data table.

Step 6: Analyze Data You study the data to see what the results of your experiment were.

Step 7: Conclusion A written statement about the result of your experiment.

Step 8: Communicate Results The data is graphed so others can see the results.

Scientific Method : Output Activity On page 33 you will create a graphic organizer that shows the steps of the scientific method. The graphic organizer will include; Each step of the scientific method in order A description of each step IN YOUR OWN WORDS. A picture illustrating each step (COLOR)

Notebook Setup Turn to page 34 Title the page: Scientific Inquiry Date the page: August 30, 2017 Add the entry to your table of contents

Reading Passage You will have 5 minutes to read the reading passage. You will highlight key terms or Information as you read. A good strategy to use is to highlight key terms in 1 color and Key information in another color.

Instructions Glue the Reading Passage onto page 34. REMEMBER!!!!! 1 DOT OF GLUE IN EACH CORNER AND 1 IN THE CENTER ONLY!!!!!!

Apply Activity 1.) Cut out the graphics and arrange them on the top half of page 35 to create a graphic organizer. GLUE THEM DOWN WITH A FEW SMALL DOTS OF GLUE! 2.) Connect them with arrows and add information from the Passage explaining why they are connected. 3.) Complete the writing Prompt 4.) Cut out the writing prompt and glue onto the bottom of page 35. REMEMBER! 1 SMALL DOT OF GLUE IN EACH CORNER AND 1 IN THE CENTER ONLY!!!!!!
