Science Project Type your project title here Your name Your teacher’s name Your school

2 Purpose This is the question that your experiment will answer. Be specific. How does _________________ affect _____________________?

3 Name: -----------------------------------------------
Variables Independent variable: The one variable that you purposely change and test. Independent variable: Dependent variable: The measure of change observed because of the independent variable. It is important to decide how you are going to measure the change. Dependent variable: Due Date: Wednesday, October 1st

4 Background Information
Research your topic. Write at least five facts that explain how or why your experiment might turn out a certain way. Look for research done by other scientists. If it’s not in your own words, put quotes around it. Don’t forget to copy and paste your web addresses/ URLs onto the “works cited” page (slide 13) as you go.

5 Hypothesis Based on the research you have done, you will be predicting the outcome of your experiment– your best educated guess . If Then Because

6 Materials Type a detailed list of the items you needed to complete your experiments. Be specific about the amounts used and sizes. Materials: Item # needed

7 Procedure List all of the steps used in completing your experiment.
Remember to number your steps. Remember to include multiple trials (repeat 2x, etc.) Add photos of your experiments. Procedure: _____________________________________________ ______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ ________________________________________________

8 Control Setup & Constant Variables
Identify your Control setup- the part of your experiment that does not Include the independent variable. Or – “normal conditions” My Control Setup is_____________________________________________ Controlled or constant variables: These are the things that are kept the same throughout your experiments. Controlled variables:

9 Data Table & Observations
It is easier to understand the data if it is put into a table or graph. Modify the table below for your experimental set-up. Put the independent and dependent variables in the correct boxes. Make sure to include units (at least for dependent variable). You can have more or less rows or columns. Independent Variable Dependent Variable Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3 Average

10 Graph It is easier to analyze and look for patterns in the data if it is put into a visual graph. Make a graph with “Create a Graph” or Microsoft Excel and paste or import it here. Make sure the graph has: a Title, X and Y axes are labeled, and units are included.

11 Conclusion Type a brief summary here of what you discovered based on the results of your experiments. Include answers to the following questions: According to my data, _______does/does not affect_________. My hypothesis is/is not supported by my data. (ok if it doesn’t) A brief summary of data (Averages only)

12 Possible Errors & Further Testing
Describe one or more possible sources of error or variables that were not controlled in your experiment. OR Suggest ways to improve the experiment. Propose at least one idea for an additional study related to the first (cannot be about a totally different subject).

13 Works Cited Be sure to include print and electronic
sources and put them in alphabetical order. If it’s a website, include a specific URL, not just “Wikipedia”
