Presentation transcript:

King Khafre Ben Horvat Period 3

What were King Khafre’s greatest two accomplishments? He made the second Great Pyramid in Giza and made the Great Sphinx.

Why was Egypt so prosperous during Khafre’s reign? There was no military conflict. Culture was flourishing in Egypt. People began to worship the sun god, Ra, again.

Where did Khafre build the second Great Pyramid and why does it seem larger than King Khufu’s pyramid? King Khafre built his pyramid in Giza, next to his father’s pyramid, King Khufu. It was built on a plateau, therefore it seems the largest.

What are some visual representations that exist of Khafre? He is thought to look like the Sphinx at Giza. There is a statue of himself with the falcon Horus on his head.

King Menkaure

What was different about Menkaure’s pyramid than the others? He used Aswan granite to build his pyramid instead of limestone the others used.

Who is Menkaure the son of and who did he marry? He is the son of King Khafre. He married his sister, Khamernehtill.

Why did Menkaure build his pyramid smaller compared to the others? He wanted to use less workers on the pyramid’s construction.

Was the pyramid finished before Menkaure died? What remains of it today? The pyramid wasn’t finished in time. All that remains of the pyramid is the causeway.

How do we know what Menkaure looked like? There are six triad statues that are all similar and believed to be him.

Bent Pyramid

Who built the Bent Pyramid and when? King Snefru built it in 2600B.C.

How tall is the pyramid? It stands at 334 ft. 334 Ft

This pyramid is the first attempt at what? It was first attempt at a smooth sided pyramid.

How many burial chambers were found inside the Bent Pyramid? There were 2 found.

to What are the two different angles that the pyramid was built? It started at 52 degrees and changed to 43 degrees. to

What are some possible reasons why something like this would happen. Snefru thought it would take more work, labor, and materials at the original angle. The reduced angle decreased the pressure on the passage ways.

Was Sneferu’s body ever found? Where do experts believe it was buried? His body has never been found. It is believed to be inside the Red Pyramid.
