2 Intro Currently there are approximately 130 pyramids located in modern day Egypt Most were built as tombs for the great pharaohs and their spouses/family. Most built during the Old and Middle Kingdoms (2688- 1650 BCE)

3 Pyramid of Djoser The earliest constructed pyramids, located in the necropolis (burial ground) of Sakkara in Northwest of Memphis in the 2600s BCE A tomb for Pharaoh Djoser designed by the Architect Imhotep. It is a “step pyramid”: made of many smaller levels known as steps
