6th grade music 1st & 3rd Period Explore Music 6th grade music 1st & 3rd Period Helping your child become the best student, citizen, and well diverse person they can be in a safe and nurturing environment through the use and study of music. Teacher: Becky McLain

This is NOT your typical music class! Hands on activities, use of technology, games Develop cooperation, team work skills, time management, responsibility, respect, creativity Exposure to and develop appreciation for other genres of music other than what they usually listen to We will have FUN!

We will have FUN! This Year Students will learn: How to read music (staff notes, terminology and symbols) Basic performance skills on the keyboard The how, what, and why of music from the past to the present - to understand the progression of society and the role music has and does play in it Create informative video presentations and create art to represent various time periods and genres of music We will have FUN!

General classroom expectations: Golden Rules and SOAR expectations Be on time and ready to participate – in your seat with all needed materials and a good attitude Show respect for people and property – how we treat each other, how we speak to each other, when it is appropriate to speak, taking care of equipment and supplies No food, drink or gum!

Consequences & Rewards The school protocol for consequences will be followed Check mark/warning, parent contact, detention (I use several creative measures in the warning stages to gain acceptable outcome before utilizing detentions. Rewards include Eagle Bucks, special privileges, candy - feel free to send some in , positive parent contacts, etc.

What Is Needed to succeed in this class? Have ALL supplies needed, in seat working on bell work within 1 min. of tardy bell. Participate, follow expectations, and always try to complete work to the best ability Respect each other, classroom environment, and equipment If you are NOT willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are DETERMINED to learn, no one can stop you.

Participation Grade students begin each week with a 100% points are deducted according to the participation rubric If a student is absent more than 2 days in the week, they will not receive a participation grade for that week. Any unexcused absences or work not completed will result in an “F”.

All grades are of equal value Students will have 9 or more grades per 9 weeks Any projects or group work will be graded with the use of a rubric
