Why? Provide ongoing information for parents regarding their child’s progress “How effectively do we support parents and carers to participate in, contribute to and understand their child’s learning? What can you expect? “Parents are looking for reports that give a clear, rounded personalised summary of their child’s learning and progress. They want good quality conversations with teachers that feel personal and specific to their child. The paperwork needs to support this rather than becoming an end in itself. Report card formats and other arrangements for reporting should avoid jargon.” Education Scotland 2013

Why? Create a document that can be looked back on and support “pupil voice” school reports.

We will not have one off assemblies: by letting us know/pupils letting us know/asking for it Shout it out board/assemblies-special mentions( protect dignity) in the file, in the classroom and on occasion with child’s permission through newsletter. Why? Develop with children/parents/carers a document that can be used to record, evidence and share learning. These learning journals will be made available to children, parents, carers at all times and celebrated at parent consultations. Parents are encouraged to contribute. Each young person, with appropriate support through dialogue with a member of staff, and from discussions with their parents as appropriate, will Comments- value of homework…….

It is a Transition document Early Level- Nursery x2 years & P1 First Level – P2, P3, P4 Second Level – P5, P6, P7 Key Milestone –P1/P4/P7 Learning Journals will be passed on to the next class for transition purposes. Learning Journals will be available to children as the progress through school so they can look back on their learning and reflect on progress through the school. Sent home at end of key milestones. Provides an agenda for discussion between learners and those teaching and supporting them.

What will it look like? 4 sections –literacy, numeracy, H&W, other areas, wider achievement Might look messy Include test data Individual “Aha moments” and successes as they occur Partnership – teacher/pupil/peer/parent &carer Wider Achievement Written by pupils in conjunction with staff, rather than by staff about a pupil. Transparent –monitoring and tracking The Learning Journals will include a variety of evidence- photos, quotes, drawings, pieces of work, items collected.

What can you expect? Levels of achievement attained: tick boxes – end of session Behavioural/Attitude comment – end of session Attendance Report – end of session Pupil Voice Reports /Learning Journals as basis of parental consultations Termly updates about what your child will hope to achieve (Aug, Oct, Jan, March) Clear constructive feedback about child’s learning and development Describe any support that has been needed.
