4 Thinking Skills Across Learning  Remembering :- involves such activities as recall, recognition or locating information  Understanding :-might involve activities such as describing, explaining, summarising and translating  Applying :-requires the learner to use or apply their knowledge and understanding in different contexts  Analysing :-requires learners to break down information into component parts and search for relationships  Evaluating :-involves making an informed judgement about something, for example an issue or method. Activities such as comparing, appraising, prioritising, rating or selecting, could involve learners in evaluating  Creating :- happens when learners are required to generate new ideas and products through activities such as designing, creative writing, planning, reconstructing, inventing, formulating, producing and composing

5 Building Learning Power Skills for learning, life and work Personal and Learning skills :- these enable individuals to become effective lifelong learners Literacy and Numeracy:- Focus on applying the skills in a range of contexts The Five Core Skills :-communication, numeracy, problem solving, information technology and working with others These are skills that can be developed by all learners, whenever and wherever they are learning

6 Literacy Numeracy Attainmen t Achievement = + + Totality of The Curriculum Continue with Big Maths Encourage children to articulate strategies and numeracy skills being used Numeracy Focussed Learning contexts New Handwriting Policy Launch of our Pen licence for P4 children Improvements to teaching of spelling Focus on mistake tracking Children are aware of learning targets in Literacy and Numeracy Children track progress towards these learning targets Learning Walls in classrooms clearly demonstrate what skills the children are developing as part of the learning context Links are made between home and school Changes to reporting to parents ensure that children have regular opportunities to discuss their learning journey with their parents/carers Reflection time will be embedded into daily classroom practice Children will complete a profile of their learning journey to be shared with peers, parents and staff Priority 3 Children’s learning demonstrate a smooth progression and increased pace of learning through CFE levels building on prior learning with targets and next steps identified Priority 2 All children will display improved standards of written work from early to second level in all curricular areas Priority 1 All children will demonstrate improved application of numeracy skills from early to second level Priority 4 95% of children will be able to engage in a dialogue focussed on their learning progress with staff, pupils, parents and carers peers
