Why Listening is Important? To avoid communication errors. Helps to learn something new. It is the key to success.

Why People Don’t Listen? People are distracted, preoccupied or forgetful a full 75 percent of the time. We usually recall just 50 percent of what was said immediately after we talk We spend just 45 percent of our time listening  We remember just 20 percent of what we hear.  Only 2 percent of us have had formal educational experience with listening

Basic Types of Listening Active listening Selective listening Emphatic listening Ignoring listening

Active Listening Understanding all things (probing – asking clarifying questions, reflecting – summarizing what’s been said) Proper interaction. Proper feedback

Selective Listening We remember only Selective portion. Topic is not to our liking

Ignoring Listening Not listening at all is pretty insulting to others. It can lead to strained relations
