The Prague Spring Archive By Ian Goodale and Gilbert Borrego, UT-Austin Libraries This project is a collaboration between the University of Texas at Austin, the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (CREEES), and the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library. The project aims to make important primary documents on the Prague Spring openly accessible to an international community of scholars and researchers. The homepage for the materials was created using Scalar. The archival PDFs are housed in our institutional repository, Texas ScholarWorks. Individual archival boxes and folders each have their own pages in the site, with key documents, representative images of documents, and brief descriptions of box and folder contents provided to guide users. The homepage features custom-made UI elements to complement Scalar’s standard user interface. The landing page for the site leads onto the homepage. The interactive timeline provides a brief visual introduction to the Prague Spring for those unfamiliar with the events. The archival content is supplemented throughout by public domain images. Key figures in the archive’s materials are highlighted alongside images of the figures. The full collection of over 1,100 items is available at Texas ScholarWorks. The structure of the Prague Spring files in ScholarWorks preserves the original organization of the physical archives. This project emphasizes the impact of an institutional repository that goes beyond just housing static content but can be utilized in an integral and dynamic manner that provides the foundation for the entire project.
