4 Question #1 Can your IR compete for your faculty member’s attention against ResearchGate, Academia.edu, and other solutions? Getting contributions is key and your faculty are most important so let’s begin with them. If this feels like an impossible first hurdle, you could also ask the question “Are faculty aware that we have a repository and services to make their works more visible?” If you can answer in the affirmative, you are on the right path

5 For University of Nebraska Lincoln, greater visibility is key and the library celebrates having the most popular campus domain They are pretty proud that they are #1 and share the news widely. Are you proud of your results? If yes, you are on the right path to a modern IR 10/17/2019

10 Texas A&M Law IR contributing to meteoric jump in rankings and prestige
Texas A&M Law School jumps 38 spots in one year. The school found that it had to work on visibility of its faculty scholarship to compete for high-level faculty in the recruitment process. Susan Phillips, Professor of Law and Director of the Dee J. shared that “there were many pieces of the puzzle, and Digital Commons was certainly one of them.”

11 Question #4 Is your IR a marketing tool for the university?

12 Richmond University highlights research impact (from the IR) on department web pages
Here we see department Web site home pages which highlight the world-wide audience interested in their faculty research output—something made possible with a modern IR. Perhaps embedding this IR widget into the department web site signal something about the interest that exists for the faculty expertise. Why would Richmond put this on their Web site which is a key marketing vehicle? Why do institutions market? Perhaps to encourage students to attend, other faculty to join or pick their faculty for a collaboration?

13 What Kind of IR Should I have?
