Churchill’s Plan Definitions: Allied troops- Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand. Stalemate- A position counting as a draw, in which a player is not in check, but cannot move except into check. -Churchill’s plan was sending battleships of the British and French Navies to smash through the Turkey decrepit, along the narrow Dardanelles. - Once they took over, they would send 480,000 allied troops to land on Gallipoli and keep the strait open. - During the invasion, the Turks had enough time to recruit forces of the British and French, along with the ANZACS

Significant Individuals Charles Monroe Was responsible for overseeing the evacuation of the Gallipoli Peninsula Replaced Sir Ian Hamilton as regional Commander- in- Chief General Ian Hamilton A commander in Chief of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force Tasked to seize control of the Dardanelles straits along with the capture of Constantinople

Failed Naval Attack February 19th 1915, 10 battleships were sent, mine sweepers failed to detect the mines March 18th 1915, ships entered the straits, undetected mines underwater and forts attacked the ships 3 sunk and 2 damaged Remaining ships retreated

Amphibious Beach Attack On April 25th 1915, under General Ian Hamilton command, the ANZAC and French troops, suffered heavy casualties to land on the Gaba Tepe, later known as Anzac Cove.

Back Attack The summer heat and dysentery epidemic were unbearable A lot of the soldiers died from disease and from ineffective leadership In August, Hamilton ordered 63,000 troops to link up with the Anzacs at Anzac Cove Indecision gave the Ottoman time to reinforce their army On Aug 10th, the Ottoman recaptured Suvla bay
