1 Focus 12/19 Germany gained early victories in the west, while Russia won victories in the east. The lines quickly stabilized and the countries of Europe found themselves in a stalemate along three fronts: Western Front, Eastern Front, and Southern Front. A new style of warfare also developed called Trench Warfare. Points for Discussion: Why was victory difficult for the Germans to obtain? Term to Know: Stabilize Critical Lens: Germany was in a difficult position to obtain victory.
