Presentation transcript:

Basic Science Terms Observation: using the five senses to gather information, which can be proven (facts) Inference: an opinion based on facts from observations & past experiences Science: 1) knowledge gained by observation of the natural world, 2) the process by which we try to understand the natural world Physical Science: the study of ME (Matter & Energy) Matter – must have mass & take up space Energy – the ability to do work Chemistry: the study of matter & how it interacts

Basic Science Terms Physics: the study of energy & how it affects matter Bias: a point of view which is personal or based on a belief that is NOT supported by facts (Bad) Control Group: the group which does NOT have any factor changed & is used as a comparison Independent Variable: factor that is purposely changed Dependent Variable: the change that results from the independent variable

Basic Science Terms Analyze: to closely examine, interpret, or evaluate data Conclusion: a data-based decision to accept or reject a hypothesis Prediction: a statement about what will happen in the future
