2. Variable
A factor that can affect the result of an experiment.

3. Independent/Test Variable
The one variable that is purposely changed to test the hypothesis. Hint: it is what you do in the experiment.

4. Dependent/Outcome variable
The factor that changes in response to the independent variable. Hint: generally, this is what you measure in your results.

5. Qualitative Data
An observation/description that cannot be expressed with numbers.

6. Quantitative Data
An observation that deals with numbers or amounts.

7. Hypothesis
A possible answer to a scientific question. Also a testable statement.

8. Inference
When an observation is explained or interpreted.

9. Observation Determining something by using your five senses.
Recognizing or noting a fact or occurrence.
