NAVAIR’s HBCU/MI ONR Summer Intern Experience Presented to OAW By: Ms. Maria Thorpe

WHAT IS NAVAIR HBCU/MI Program ? The program is a summer undergraduate intern opportunity providing students a chance to participate in Research, Development and Test at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory or warfare center during the summer. The program provides competitive internships to college students to spend the summer conducting research at one of approximately 8 sites across the country   File: NAVAIR Brief

How Does it Work Interested students provide a resume, transcripts and an online application process. Selected applicants will spend the summer under the guidance of a mentor conducting naval-relevant research at one of nearly 8 sites across the country. Research opportunities include (but not limited to): Human Systems Integration Information Technology/Cyber Communication and Navigation Air Vehicle Design and Propulsion Energetics Material Science Autonomy Data Fusion File: NAVAIR Brief

Program Goals Encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics Further student education via mentoring by laboratory personnel Contribute to relevant naval research Raise student awareness of DoN technology efforts, which may lead to employment within DoN. WHO IS ELIGIBLE To be eligible, a student must be enrolled in an accredited four-year U.S. college or university with good academic standing. Students enrolled in a two-year college may be considered. U.S. citizenship and a background check are required at most labs. File: NAVAIR Brief
