FLAG FOOTBALL

Table of Contents Definition Positions (Quarterback, Receiver, Center) Throwing Catching Training session Defense Tactics Rules

What is Flag Football? Flag football is a non-contact game that promotes skill, cardio training and mental strategy. It is a kind of American Football.

Quarterback Thrower ->gets the ball from the center and throws it to the receiver - leader of the team responsible for the structure of the game -> decides the strategies/play

Receiver Receivers start the game from the line of scrimmage. The receivers will run down the field in a predetermined passing route when the ball is thrown by the quarterback. If another receiver gets the ball, the others aren’t allowed to block the defense.

Receiver If you catch the ball, run as fast as you can until your flag gets pulled. Even if you feel like your flag is pulled, don’t stop, the whistle will be blown if you have to stop.

Center - Task Player at the Line of Scrimmage Center snaps the ball between their legs to the Quarterback

Throwing a spiral Position your fingers in between the laces at the back third Use your fingertips to grip the ball Laces

Throwing a spiral Position your feet correctly -> shoulder-width apart and flex your knees Spin the ball with your fingers to initiate the spiral at the release

Catching If you’re catching, form a triangle with index fingers and thumbs, this way the catching becomes much easier. Catch the ball with your arms extended, it will allow room to cushion the catch. Always keep your eyes on the ball all the way until it’s in yours or someone else’s hands.

Catching If you catch the ball, quickly secure it by tucking it away and holding it to your body. Never let the ball drop, otherwise the ball is dead and you have to start another play.

Training session Throwing -> How to throw a football Catching -> How to catch a football Flag pulling -> How to pull a flag

Training session Defense-/Offensetraining -> learn tactics/plays and man to man defense Lineball -> little game to improve catching and throwing skills

Flag Football - Defense Playing defense in a flag football game can be challenging, because the defense has to react to the offense play and either stop the receivers from catching the ball or pull one of the two small flags hanging from their belts.

Step 1 Offenses will try to put together a decent running game so defenders with speed can chase the running backs to the sidelines or pull the flags to prevent big plays.

Step 2 Keep your hands up when the quarterback is throwing the ball so the receiver isn‘t able to catch the ball.

Step 3 Keep the receiver in front of you when you are in pass coverage and grab the flag and pull it. You can‘t grab or push him/her.

Step 4 Read the quarterback‘s eyes if you are in coverage, most quarterbacks will stare down their receivers before throwing it so a defensive player will be able to take advantage of that, jumping and intercepting the pass.

Offense Tactics

Rules At the start of each game, captains from both teams shall meet at midfield for the coin toss to determine who shall start with the ball. The visiting team shall call the toss.

Rules The winner of the coin toss has the choice of offense or defense. The loser of the coin toss has the choice of direction. Teams may not choose to defer to the second half.

Rules Teams change sides after the first half. Possession changes to the team that started the game on defense.

Rules A legal flag pull takes place when the ball carrier is in full possession of the ball. Defenders can dive to pull flags, but can not tackle or hold the ball carrier when pulling flags.

Rules Play is ruled ‘dead‘ when: The ball hits the ground The ball carrier‘s flag is pulled
