Mt. Horeb I.C. Orientation night Welcome to Mrs. Farnsworth’s Class!

Meet Mrs. Farnsworth I’m married to Mr. Farnsworth who teaches 5th grade. I have 3 sons Brett (23), Blake (19), and Bryce (17). I have worked in the district for 27 years. I team with Mrs. Messmann.

Reading Focus on reading comprehension strategies like: making connections, questioning, visualizing, inferring, determining importance, and synthesizing. We will be using Journeys Reading Series and will implement the Daily 5 as well. *If you can find a small ½-1” binder that would be wonderful! Independent Reading – shooting for 350 or more minutes per month(See included sheets). https://www.kidsa-z.com/main/Login

Language Arts & Spelling As part of Journeys will be writing most days-Day 4 will be a bigger chunk. Many new grammar skills. Making ME Books to journal 3rd grade. New spelling words given on Monday in the homework folder. Practice during the week. Tests taken on Friday every week. We’ll learn cursive-starting in October.

Math We use Everyday Math – website demo http://www.everydaymathonline.com- (passwords glued in homework folders) Starts out with review concepts and spirals through new and old concepts. Home links – come home on yellow paper Xtramath.com website for “facts” practice http://www.xtramath.com – (log in sheets included tonight)

Technology We have 7 Acers and 1-2 iPads to use Every Day 4 we have keyboarding for 30 minutes. Every Day 1 we go to the lab for 45 minutes. We will be using: http://www.google.com/ https://www.tenmarks.com/teacher/dashbo ard

Google Opt out Form *only for new families Mount Horeb Area School District Student Google Account Opt-Out Form Web-based accounts are provided by Google Inc. for Mount Horeb Area School District students. These accounts are used primarily for access to Google Apps for Education which includes online tools for communication, collaboration, time-management, and document storage. This system has been selected by District staff primarily for its meaningful impact on education, and its efficiency and simplicity for use with students. Access to this account comes with the ability to use select tools from the Google Apps for Education suite. The availability of these tools may change in the future. For more information about Google Apps for Education and the tools that may be available, please visit the following site: http://www.google.com/enterprise/apps/education/products.html A few of our reasons for supplying these tools to students are: • To give our students practice in using current technology applications and tools • To give students the ability to work on common, no-cost tools on their own documents both at school and outside of school • To facilitate paperless transfer of work between students and teachers • To provide adequate long-term storage space for student work • To help students work collaboratively, engage in peer-editing of documents, and publish for a wider audience • To provide a digital environment where our students and teachers can work collaboratively In requirements outlined in the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Google Inc. requires that the ability to opt-out be provided to parents/guardians of students under the age of 13, should parents/guardians not want an account created and assigned to their child. If this form is not signed and submitted to the Mount Horeb Area School District, then your child will be given an account to use throughout the school year. You may opt-out at any time. This form is available on the Mount Horeb Area School District website. By signing this form, I acknowledge that my child is under the age of 13 and will not have a Google Apps for Education account created for communication and collaboration with students and staff within the Mount Horeb Area School District.
