3 7:30-8:00 Morning Arrival Students will complete Morning Work, which is a review of reading and math skills, and then select a book to read, fill a bucket, or practice math facts on the computer. After morning announcements, we will check Morning Work!

4 8:00- 8:10 Morning Meeting Our class family will have a meeting each day where we greet one another and students will have an opportunity to share things from their own lives weekly. This is a great time to work on social skills and building a positive and supportive classroom environment.

5 8:10-9:00 Guided Reading During guided reading I will teach reading strategies through mini-lessons and focus on skills and comprehension. Students will read leveled books individually, with partners and in small groups.

6 Math 9:00-10:00 The third grade math curriculum emphasizes problem solving skills, basic facts, measurement and basic algebraic and geometric concepts. This year the third grade math class will be focusing on mastering the third grade math common core through the Eureka Math Program. Check my teacher webpage for resources for Eureka.

7 10:00-10:15 Break time This year the students will be indoors for morning break time. During this time the students will eat a snack, use the restroom, and have a choice of activities in the classroom such as Lego’s, board games, drawing, reading, computer, etc.

8 Snack Please send a HEALTHY snack to school with your child daily. Our lunch is vey late this year, so your child will need a snack every day to help them do their best throughout the morning! Fruit, vegetables, yogurt, bagels, cheese and crackers, cereal bars… No sweets please!!!!

9 10:15-11:00 Writing Workshop During writing workshop, students will learn strategies for developing personal narrative and fictional stories. We will emphasize writing from our own life experiences, using model texts as examples. We also study and practice fractured fairy tales, opinion/persuasive writing, and informational. I will conference with students during this time to develop their individual writing skills.

10 10:15-11:00 Word Work In third grade we will continue the Fundations program (reading decoding program from K-2) from second grade There will also be a focus on grammar skills Students will be learning about parts of speech and ways to make their writing more meaningful. Cursive will also be integrated into these lessons

11 11:05-11:50 Specials Monday- Music Tuesday- Library
Wednesday- double specials every other week. Specialists will plan. White Weeks – rotate two specials Green Weeks – Innovation hour Thursday-Physical education *Need tennis shoes!* Friday- Art *Need art shirt with name on it!*

12 11:50-12:40 Science I teach science to my class and Mrs. Grantham’s class. I will start by teaching the first unit to my class for 4 weeks and the other 4 weeks your child will have social studies with Mrs. Grantham. The third grade science units include animal lifecycles and classification, composition of rocks and soils, and matter. Our first unit will be plants and animals. I will send home a study guide at least 1 week prior to any tests.

13 Social Studies 11:50-12:40 Students will be going to Mrs. Grantham for all social studies instruction. This year will focus on communities with an emphasis on the history, geography, economics, government and citizenship of our local area. Each unit will last for 4 weeks.

14 12:40-1:30 Recess and Lunch Eat - Play

15 Silent reading and WIN time
1:30-2:25 Silent reading and WIN time Students will read self-selected books independently during this time or I will read aloud a more challenging chapter book. I will conference with the students to assess their reading comprehension. WIN= What I Need. It is a time to focus on the individual needs of each student providing intervention or enrichment as needed.

16 2:25-2:30 Afternoon Dismissal
Students will write in their agenda at the beginning of each week. Please see your child’s agenda daily for assignments and due dates! Every Friday they will bring home their Green folder with their mail. Please empty this folder and return it to school every week.

18 Communication I will a weekly newsletter each Friday since Millridge is a paperless building. On occasion I will also send home information in the Friday Folder along with your child’s class work. Please empty the folder and return it to school on Monday. Please check my teacher webpage for photos, event and test dates, curriculum info, reminders, etc.

19 Student of the Week Every student in the class will have the opportunity to be the student of the week. They will: Be the student of the day and share an all about me poster. Your child will have a week to work on the poster at home and bring in the following Monday. You are welcome to take your child out to lunch sometime during that week if you would like to!

20 Classroom Management You may be hearing a lot about blue or green “Good Behavior” from your child. It is part of a system that helps students take responsibility for their own behavior in the classroom. Students can move up to green for oustanding behavior, or down to yellow if they receive several warnings. A copy of my classroom discipline plan is in the parent handbook for a detailed description.

22 Field Trips The students will visit the Holden Arboretum twice this year, in the fall and spring, to explore science concepts. We will also visit Burton Century village to relate to social studies concepts.

23 Odds & Ends… Infinite Campus- new last year, be sure to log in and update contact information, check grades, etc. 3rd Grade Guarantee-Reading Signs up at the back of the classroom for conferences, mystery reader, door decorator, and field trip chaperones. Be on the lookout for papers coming home about Edutyping, Xtra Math, and Moby Max
