Class Organisation What we expect… Equipment A small/medium sized pencil case with modest contents! Additional colouring pencils/pens can be kept in trays. Kit Full PE kit. Please remember socks for girls! Bring to school on Monday – take home to wash (if needed) on Friday. Books Homework diaries, reading record plus ORT and home reader books to be at school EVERY day. Library books should be returned for changing OR renewal on Wednesday. Food/Drink A named water bottle in school every day. ‘Live-Kitchen’ orders placed at home OR a named packed lunch. A piece of fruit can be packed as a break-time snack. Letters Please let your child and the class teacher know WHO is collecting them. A note, verbal communication (that morning) or a call to the office is necessary.

Homework Home learning is an opportunity to independently rehearse taught skills & concepts. We occasionally set research tasks in preparation for intended learning. Subject Set Due English/Topic Tuesday Thursday Spellings Maths Monday Please encourage independence. Label with a post-it note where support is given. Please insist on careful presentation

Reading Opportunities In school Independent reading Reading to an adult (volunteers?) Guided reading (Class teacher/LSA led) Shared reading At home Read with your child (ORT / Home Reader books) at least 3 times per week – record page numbers and comments EVERY time you read with your child. Independent reading (supplementary)

Assessment Spring Term: Annual Assessment (Nelson) Teacher Assessment is ongoing – we observe and evaluate learning as it is happening! Self assessment & peer assessment. In Maths, we more ‘formally’ assess at the end of each half term. Spring Term: Annual Assessment (Nelson) (data is linked to national expectations and a diagnostic report for parents is given on how to support your child's learning. Summer Term: Year 4 Optional SATs Tests (Same week as end of KS2 tests) Personal Targets – In Maths and English, the children will be set targets. These may reflect a whole class focus but will also be personalised and frequently reviewed.

High Expectations! Year 4 rewards include: House Points At St Paul’s, we actively praise and reward effort as well as outcome! We promote resilience and perseverance and strive to enhance a ‘Growth Mindset.’ We remind children of the class rules we collectively agreed and recognise these are there to ensure we feel safe/secure and can access learning. Year 4 rewards include: House Points Table Points – weekly prizes Learning Leaves Verbal communication with parents

...and finally We are, of course, available if there is anything regarding your child you wish to discuss. However, before school is not the best time. An impromptu conversation at the end of the day may be accommodated, otherwise, a note or call to the office to arrange an appointment is best.
