Welcome & Settle In -10 Please write you would like to be called on your nametag. Don’t forget to grab some snacks! Put your bags at the perimeter of the room.

The Intersectionality Workshops… - 2 In the next two workshops we will take a deeper dive to explore identity and intersectionality. There will be pairing and sharing as well as small group dialogues. There may be times when you will feel vulnerable, but that is a normal part of this experience. Be sure to reflect upon the Community Learning Values that are posted in the room to help you stretch.

The Stretch Zone (Reminder) – 1-2 Comfort Zone Panic Zone -If you are feeling comfortable, please feel free to share what is keeping you grounded in this learning experience -Triggers are natural and we acknowledge that this occurs -Feel free to check-in and take care of yourself

How do others see me? (The Mask) – 15-17 Find someone you’d like to talk to, and answer the following questions. *Facilitators demonstrate first question (1 minute apiece) Who are you? Who do people think you are? Who do you pretend to be?

Pair Debrief -5 min What new questions came up for you about me? What new questions came up about my identity?

Large Group Debrief - 20 How did it feel to ask the questions? How did it feel to answer the questions? Was there a point you felt compelled to stop? When? Why? Where did you feel a stretch?

Switching Gears - 1 You’ve had the opportunity to talk with someone about how: You see yourself Others see you Who you might have to pretend to be Now take some time to think about how all of your responses intersect to form your identity

Flower Identity Diagram - 10 In your SJP journal, draw a flower diagram *Facilitator demonstrates Write different parts of your identity in each of the “petals” Consider your identity within the context of the Cycle of Socialization

The Identity Flower - 35 In small groups answer the following questions based upon your identity flower: What is one thing you wish people understood about what its like to be you? What is one thing you think people assume about how you identify? What is one way you wish people would support you based upon how you identify? What is one thing you wish people would stop saying or doing to you that impacts your identity?

Popcorn share-out - 10 Share out what you discussed Thoughts Feelings Surprises Questions

Reflection Questions - 10 Based upon your identities what privilege and/or oppression do you experience when you navigate institutional systems (school, work, voting, housing, cost of living, healthcare)? Over winter break, please ask a close member (or members) of your family about how they identify and how they navigate institutional systems. Journal about this dialogue over winter break, and include new things that you learned about your family and what that means for your identity.
