ANSWER AND DISCUSS Discuss Chapter 2 with your peers Compare and Discuss your responses to our questions from last class Describe the mood of Chapter 2. Based on your group discussion, do you believe Chapter 3 will be more of the same? How would you set up Chapter 3 if you were the writer?

Chapter 2 Discussion Why does Paul describe the young soldier’s lives as a wasteland (20)? Do you agree with the soldiers wanting to take Kemmerich’s boots? Explain your response. What evidence on page 22 would suggest that the soldiers have lost their individuality? Describe Corporal Himmelstoss and his treatment of the boys.
