5 Chapters 1- 4 Group Discussion
Work with your group to pull examples from the text to support your responses Copy Responses onto Your Poster If someone asked you to describe exactly what you think Elie Wiesel thought and felt while living in the camps, how would you do so? Provide examples from the text to support your group’s response. Franek and Edek torment Elie’s father multiple times. Why might Elie’s anger be directed towards his father and not the Kapo? What is ironic about the prisoner’s feelings about air raids? The author uses figurative language throughout his story. Find one example you remember and be prepared to explain why it’s so memorable. Create one question you’d like us to respond to about the novel

6 Homework Directions: You do not need to submit written answers to these questions. Your grade, however, will be based on your verbal responses to these questions. You are required to provide at least three meaningful contributions to our discussion. Failure to contribute to the discussion will result in a loss of 30 points from the Daily Grade. Again, you need not write out responses to these questions, but I would advise taking some notes on the ones you know you would like to discuss in class. Chapter 5 Describe Elie’s feelings as the prisoners observe the Jewish New Year. How do the prisoners’ in Elie’s block survive the New Year selection? Describe the exchange of possessions between father and son when it appears that the elder Wiesel has been selected for death. Why is Elie admitted to camp hospital? What dangers face him there? Discuss and evaluate Elie’s decision to leave the hospital early.
