GEOSS Data Providers Side Event (GEO XIII) DMP Overview GEO demonstrated its broad convening power by reaching consensus on ten principles for data management These Principles have been widely endorsed by the global community DMP Implementation Guidelines were published last year. To facilitate usability and quality of data obtained through GEOSS, it is considered very important for data providers to declare their level of compliance with the principles. All the GEOSS DMPs address the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) Principles A greater degree of conformance generally leads to greater usability and interoperability of the data 2016-NOV-07 GEOSS Data Providers Side Event (GEO XIII)

Data Management Principles The value of Earth observations are maximized through data life-cycle management, expressed in ten principles supporting five themes. DISCOVERABILITY DMP-1: Data and metadata will be discoverable ACCESSIBILITY DMP-2: Data will be accessible via online services USABILITY DMP-3: Uses Standard Encodings DMP-4: Well Documented DMP-5: Provenance Metadata for Traceability DMP-6: Quality Controlled, Quality Documented The DMPs are based on the principle that “The value… PRESERVATION DMP-7: Loss Prevention DMP-8: Periodically Verified CURATION DMP 9: Review and Reprocessing DMP 10: Assigned Persistent and Resolvable Identifiers
