Office of Research Tennessee Tech University (TTU) receives awards for research, training, and technical assistance from extramural funding sources, including federal, state and local governments and private organizations. The policies and procedures governing research and sponsored programs are diverse and complex. Our goal as an office is to assist faculty, staff, and students in preparing proposals and conducting research that is compliant with relevant government laws and regulations, and TTU policies and procedures.

Internal Process Intent to Submit Form: Completed 30+ days before deadline. Provides information such as preliminary title, PI and other TTU personnel involved, funding program, deadline, and assistance needed. Proposal Endorsement Form: includes budget and personnel information, identifies potential compliance issues, must be signed by all personnel and applicable chairs and deans. Grant Activation Form: Completed if project is funded. Contains similar information to PEF.

InfoEd SPIN Global Suite Three components: GENIUS: Curriculum Vitae and Biosketch database (currently undergoing an upgrade) SPIN: Database containing 40,000 opportunities from more than 10,000 global sponsors SMARTS: Email notification system. Draws upon saved SPIN searches.

Create a SPIN Account Go to: http://spin.infoedglobal.com Select Sign In in the upper right hand corner of the screen Select Need to create a new profile?  

Three search mode options: search for programs using a simple word or term which is then run against the entire SPIN record. Text operators can be incorporated into your search to fine tune your results. Basic Search operates in a similar manner to the Basic Search except you select from a proprietary list of keywords to perform your search instead of typing in arbitrary word(s) or term(s). InfoEd Keyword Search customized search method allows you to tailor your search using advanced AND/OR branching logic functions to narrow down your search to retrieve more specific results. SMARTS Saving and naming search parameters allows SPIN users to utilize SMARTS Email Notifications. A popup window will appear allowing the used to select whether or not they would like to receive SMARTS emails updates related to the search. SMARTS funding alerts can be managed by going to the funding alerts dropdown and selecting Manage funding alerts.

Research Development and Grant Writing News: Provides monthly electronic newsletter for faculty on how to compete successfully for research and education funding from federal agencies and foundations. Foundation search – you can look up a specific Foundation and find out who they are funding, what types of projects, when, where. You can also search for who is funding specific categories of projects.
