Scott County YMCA Coaches Meeting 2015

7 Pillars of YMCA Sports Everyone Plays Safety First Fair Play Positive Competition Family Involvement Sport for All Sport for Fun

Character Development Four Core Values Caring – love others and be sensitive to their well being. Honesty-have integrity. Make sure that one’s actions match one’s values through sports Respect-value the worth of every person, teammates, opposing team, officials, and coaches. Responsibility-be accountable for one’s behavior and obligations. Implement team circles into your practices. Visit www.ymcahoustontraining.org for practice ideas along with team circle discussion and game ideas.

Annual Giving Campaign The YMCA’s goal is to not turn away anyone due to inability to pay. In 2012 the YMCA of Central KY awarded a little over $1.4 million in financial aid scholarships to youth, teens, and families in Fayette, Jessamine, and Scott Counties.

YMCA Coach’s Prayer Win or Lose I pledge before God Coach’s prayer is led before every game by officials Win or Lose I pledge before God To do the best I can To be a team player To respect my teammates, opponents, officials, and coaches And to improve myself in spirit, mind, and body

Y staff will notify coaches as soon as possible on GAME CANCELLATIONS. Cancellations will also be posted on the Y Facebook Page facebook.com/YMCAofScottCounty

To Remember: Practices will begin the week of Aug 31 for soccer. Games begin September 12th. There will be no practices the week of October 5th Please contact your parents as soon as possible to introduce yourself and inform them of their practice day and time. First time contact should be a phone call. Game schedules will be emailed out to parents. There is also a copy in your packet

Snack Schedules Encourage Healthy Snacks Players should bring water to practices and games. Encourage water over sugary drinks. Encourage parents to bring snacks like fruits, veggie packs, crackers. Website on Healthy Eating – www.ChooseMyPlate.gov

Coaches All Games and Practices will be held at Grace Christian Church located at 1648 Lexington Rd. All soccer players will need to come with a soccer ball, cleats, and shin guards. T-Ball Coaches will be provided with a bag of 4 helmets and 5 T-Balls. Parents are asked to provide a glove. I would suggest they bring a hat the first couple of weeks until their team hats are handed out. Jerseys will be handed out on the day of the first games, unless they arrive early, then they will be available at the Y office for you to pick up and hand out at practice. Players will be given the size as noted on the team roster, regardless of fit so that everyone receives the size they requested.

E-Learning for Coaches http://training.ymca.net/ To help you with your season, we’ve provided concise e-learning lessons that contain education on the philosophy of YMCA Youth Sports, basic coaching techniques that include practice plans, skills, drills, rules and tactics of the sport, and valuable volunteer resources. Certificates of completion can be printed at the end of each session.
