Romeo and Juliet Act III

Act III, Scene 1: Morning on a street in Verona In this scene, a fight breaks out in the street between Mercutio and Tybalt. Tybalt kills Mercutio. Romeo then kills Tybalt to avenge Mercutio’s death. The Prince appears and banishes Romeo from Verona.

Act III, Scene 2: Later that morning at the Capulet’s The Nurse tells Juliet the news of the fight earlier in the morning. Juliet is very upset about her cousin’s death and Romeo’s banishment and threatens to kill herself. The Nurse promises to bring Romeo to Juliet that night.

Act III, Scene 3: Friar Laurence’s cell When Romeo finds out that he is banished, he threatens to stab himself. Friar Laurence tells him to act like a man and arranges for Romeo to be with Juliet before he leaves for Mantua in the morning.

Act III, Scene 4: Later that afternoon at Capulet’s house Lord Capulet tells Paris he may marry Juliet and Paris eagerly agrees. The marriage will take place on Thursday, three days from now.

Act III, Scene 5: Late that night in the Capulet’s orchard Juliet and Romeo spend the night together before Romeo leaves for Mantua. Juliet’s mother tells her she will marry Paris on Thursday and Juliet says “no.” Her father is angry and promises to throw her out of the house and disown her if she does not comply.

Juliet decides to go to Friar Laurence for help. **By the end of Act III, there are two dead people – Mercutio and Tybalt.
